HOW TO WALK YOUR PET BUZZARD

It was the early 1980s and the Atari 800 reigned supreme. Part of my seventh grade curriculum was a brief class in computers, in which my classmates and I were introduced to computer terminology, basic BASIC, and a tutorial program for learning Spanish -- our school could not afford the option of a voice synthesizer or else the Atari 800 program could have said our names when we typed them in.

One of our exercises was to map out a task with a flow chart. I do not recall how or why I picked the subject for this assignment, but my flow chart task was the following:  "How to Walk Your Pet Buzzard." It is a simple flow chart, sketched out on one side of wide rule loose-leaf paper -- I never did like wide rule loose-leaf paper, bleh. Like many assignments worth keeping, it ended up in a folder of memories, stashed away for later discovery and enjoyment.

I thought about this flow chart exercise recently, wondering if it would make for an interesting exercise in HTML -- like a simple Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book. After an exhaustive search for its current location, I found it in a large folder for an art class. What a relief it was to find it; if I tried to recreate it today, I think it would have lacked that spark of originality when I created it all those years ago.

After all things tedious -- thank goodness I kept it simple! -- in the creation of this online exercise, I now present:
